LUXURY ACCOMMODATION IN GUERNSEY

Welcome to Mille Fleurs Online!
Mille Fleurs is situated in the rural parish of St. Pierre du Bois in the south-west of the island. It lies in an unspoilt wooded valley in an area of great scenic beauty and is surrounded by 2½ acres of well-maintained secluded grounds which provide a tranquil escape from the rest of the world.
Set within the gardens of our lovely old Guernsey farmhouse, the three
luxury cottages open out on to their own lawn with delightful views across
the valley below to the National Trust watermill and the Silbe Nature Reserve.
We have a heated outdoor swimming pool nestling in the sunniest and most
sheltered area of the grounds for the exclusive use of guests. The pool
is situated away from accommodation, thus enabling those who wish to relax
in peace and quiet to do so undisturbed.

All the accommodation is of a high standard, furnished in country style to create a fresh and welcoming atmosphere and provide every comfort. Each cottage has fitted carpets in lounge and bedrooms, full central heating and widescreen satellite television / DVD & CD systems. We have fully-tiled bathrooms and luxury fitted kitchens with dishwashers and microwaves in all the cottages. All cooking utensils, crockery etc. are provided.
The three traditional pursuits of our rural corner of Guernsey were
vraic (seaweed) gathering, cider making and parsnip growing, so we have
named our cottages accordingly!

The
2½ acres of mature gardens are yours to explore and enjoy during
your stay here. From February until late autumn they are a blaze of colour
with spring flowers, hydrangeas and Guernsey lilies. Thoughout the garden
you can admire a wide range of rare and semi-tropical plants which thrive
in our mild climate, such as the primitive ginkgo from China and the giant
echiums from the Canaries.

The swimming pool is attractively designed with a separate shallow pool
at one end for small children and plenty of chairs and loungers on the
surrounding terrace for basking in the sun. The pool, which is heated from
April to September, rarely drops below a Mediterranean 27°C in the
summer.
For the slightly more energetic we can introduce you to the French game of 'boules' played 'Guernesiaise' style.
The grounds are particularly safe for children being situated on a quiet country lane away from all traffic save the occasional tractor, horse or Guernsey cow wandering past.

Mille
Fleurs or a thousand flowers was first recorded in the Official Land Registry
of the Bailiwick of Guernsey more than a century ago. With a profusion
of flowers from February to late Autumn, the name Mille Fleurs remains
just as appropriate today.
Originally farmland, the grounds were first laid out mainly to orchard for cider apples. During the occupation the gardens were turned over to the production of fruit and vegetables and many of the mature trees were felled to provide firewood.
After the Liberation of Guernsey in 1945, the owners returned to Mille
Fleurs determined to restore the gardens to their former beauty. Plants
and trees were successfully introduced from all over the world and as the
restored gardens took shape again, they became well known throughout the
Channel Islands. In July 1957, HRH the Queen Mother and other members of
the Royal Household honoured Mille Fleurs with a visit.
When
we purchased Mille Fleurs in 1985 the gardens had become overgrown and
initially most of our time was spent clearing the 'wilderness' to discover
a network of paths and terraces which had been laid out at various times
in the past by successive owners. Then followed a period of waiting to
see what would emerge and flourish. Since then we have been working to
improve the gardens little by little, whilst retaining their essential
character - that of a 'natural country garden' in Guernsey.
Our gardens and holiday accommodation have been featured on BBC Gardenders' World, the Beechgrove Garden in Scotland and also on Belgian, French and German television, plus articles in Vogue, the Frankfurter Allgemeine and other publications throughout Europe. In 2004 Mille Fleurs hosted the first RHS Garden Event in the Channel Islands with a walk led by Chris Bailes, Curator of RHS Garden Rosemoor.
For several years running Mille Fleurs has been awarded first prize in both the West Show and Island
Garden Competitions for the 'best garden with ornamental shrubs, trees
and perennials' and has also regularly won the Tourist Board's 'Floral Guernsey'
competition for holiday accommodation with the best gardens and floral
displays on the island.
We especially welcome members of the RHS, NCCPG and other gardening
societies for their interest in gardening, their advice and inspiration
to continue our improvement of the gardens at Mille Fleurs.

Mille
Fleurs is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery on the island
and yet is less than ten minutes walk from the unspoilt coastline and sandy
beaches of the west. You can explore the lovely lanes around us which abound
in wild flowers in the spring and summer. For the more energetic the 14-mile
National Trust coastal path with it's spectacular views meanders around
the cliffs from Pleinmont along the south coast to Fermain Bay.
Within easy reach are the windsurfing and swimming facilities of the west coast, riding stables, golf, fishing and a choice of museums, galleries and Guernsey craft centers to mention just a few of the local attractions.
St. Peter Port with it's quaint cobbled streets and attractive harbour is only fifteen minutes drive away. There you can find a wide range of fashionable shops and restaurants with excellent cuisine.
There is also a selection of village shops, a post office and bank within
minutes of Mille Fleurs, plus pubs, restaurants and bistros all nearby.
